TEAM HISTORY

The 2012 Milwaukee Mustangs return to their roots and a rich heritage of exciting arena football action in Milwaukee dating back to 1994 when the Mustangs first joined the Arena Football League and began league play before enthusiastic, near-capacity crowds in the Bradley Center.

After the founding ownership of the Mustangs sold the team following the 2001 season, there was a visible void in arena football in the Milwaukee marketplace. In 2009, Milwaukees arena football team joined the Arena Football 2 League (af2), which is the development league for the AFL. Under the ownership of the 2009 Milwaukee arena football team, the team name was changed to the Milwaukee Iron.

After a 5-11 season in the af2, the team joined the AFL in 2010, where it experienced a great deal of success on the playing field with a 12-6 record, a Midwest Division title and a playoff victory over the rival to the South, the Chicago Rush.

The team fell just short of a berth in the Arena Bowl Championship Game in a second-round playoff loss on the road to the Spokane Shock, who then won the championship the following week. The 2010 roster also featured the AFLs MVP in Quarterback Chris Greisen, who joined the ranks of the NFLs Dallas Cowboys after his championship run with Milwaukee.

Recognizing the need to further raise the bar on and off the field, three successful and reputable Milwaukee born and bred business leaders stepped forward in late 2010 to create a new ownership group for Milwaukees arena football team. They would empower, rebrand and rebuild the team from top to bottom.

After careful deliberation, the new ownership decided to return to the well-known and favorably remembered Mustangs team name in addition to a contemporary new style of the Mustangs logo and color scheme. Chris Rebholz, Todd Hansen and Dave Bahl have brought a fresh, up-tempo approach to the Mustangs as they have begun to build a rock-solid foundation and team organization in 2011, and they continue moving forward into the 2012 season and beyond.
